ESN – Executive Summary

The power supply sector in Nigeria is currently experiencing serious crisis. Nigeria, with a population of over 170 million is generating less than 4,000 MW of electricity. As the population increases and standard of living increases, the increase in energy consumption associated with households and the public facilities will continue to put much pressure on existing power supply infrastructure.

The intervention of Energy Savers Nigeria is very timely to compliment the effort of the government to increase access to electricity in Nigeria. While the government is working to increase capacity on the supply side, a huge potential exist to save energy at the side of end-users through energy efficiency programs.

Energy Savers Nigeria in collaboration with various stakeholders and partners engages via the following demand-side management programmes and initiatives:- The Energy Savers Club, Save Energy Campaign, & Energy Savers Audit Program.

These projects will assist the Nigerian Government to increase access to electricity and at the same time mitigate the emission of greenhouse gases resulting from energy generation.

Energy Savers Nigeria through its strategic partners in the public sector aims to set up minimum energy performance standards for appliances used in Nigeria. These standards will be set using policy and legislative instruments.

Energy Savers Nigeria also aims to embark on large scale advocacy campaigns and awareness creation to change behavior and to build the capacity of all relevant stakeholders to imbibe energy efficiency best practices for national development whilst supporting processes and programmes that will upscale the penetration of energy saving equipment in Nigeria.
